Eligibility and Process

Eligibility for RENEW’s grant funding does not start with RENEW. Our organization does not make grants directly to individuals. Property owners in Genesee, Monroe, or Orleans counties can see if they qualify for home repair or weatherization work by calling one of RENEW’s community partners. Depending upon where you live, contact one of the following agencies to learn more about saving money on utility costs, making necessary repairs, and making your home a healthier, safer place to live.

  • City of Rochester residents should contact the City of Rochester Bureau of Buildings and Compliance at City Hall, 30 Church Street, Rm 028B, (585) 428-6520 to see what housing rehab, home repair, lead hazard prevention grant programs are currently open.

  • Community Action of Orleans & Genesee administers NYS Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and eligible work is targeted to the most cost-effective conservation measures as determined from on-site energy audit of the structure. In Genesee County call (585) 343-7798 and in Orleans County call (585) 589-5605.

  • Habitat for Humanity Home Repair offers cost-free home repair and accessibility services to qualified homeowners in Monroe, Ontario, and Wayne Counties. Apply through the website. Note: Habitat is not accepting home repair applications for Monroe County at this time. Applications are open for Ontario and Wayne counties.

  • NeighborWorks Community Partners can be reached at (585) 325-4170. NCP offers free energy-audits as well as grants and low-cost financing for home repairs and residential energy efficiency upgrades in the Western New York and Finger Lakes regions, a target area best defined as the counties of Monroe, Genesee, Orleans, Niagara, and Erie, north of US Highway Route 20. Qualifying households can access grants to make energy efficiency upgrades.

  • PathStone Home Rehabilitation can be reached at (585) 546-3700, ext. 3026. PathStone can make grants for home repair work. Note: PathStone’s waitlist is currently closed and is not accepting home repair applications at this time.

    • Self-Help Home Repair program for homeowners in Genesee and Orleans counties interested in making improvements to their homes themselves. PathStone provides all the materials, tools and training, but participants do most of the work themselves together with friends and family.     • In Genesee County only, seniors can call PathStone’s Handyman Program if you need a faucet fixed, a grab bar installed, or a window repaired, etc. If you are a senior (60+) homeowner or renter in Genesee County, assistance is available for minor home repairs. For more information, call (585) 343-1611.

  • PathStone Weatherization Assistance Program can be reached at (585) 442-2030 ext. 752. PathStone provides no-cost energy-saving improvements to homes in Monroe County outside the City of Rochester.

  • Action for a Better Community (ABC) Energy Conservation Program can be reached at (585) 442-4160. ABC administers the NYS Weatherization program in the City of Rochester and offers no-cost grants for furnaces, hot water heaters, insulation, air sealing, etc.

  • Town of Greece residents should contact the Greece Residential Improvement Program (GRIP) at (585) 723-2384.

  • Town of Irondequoit residents should contact the Irondequoit Home Improvement Program (IHIP) at (585) 336-6021. Note: IHIP is not accepting home repair applications at this time.

  • Sheen Housing assists homeowners in Allegany, Cayuga, Chemung, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, Wayne and Yates Counties and can be reached at (585) 657-4114.

  • Renters and Landlords: RENEW worked with community partners to pilot a program to make rental properties more energy-efficient, healthier, and safer within Rochester city limits. Tenants and housing providers applied for improvements and repairs through the Rental Property Improvement Program (RPIP). The funds for this pilot have been fully expensed, but if new funds become available, we will post it on the website.
